The story behind the message
Most people know me as Coach Burnett.
I began shaping this message when I was invited to speak at Sachse High School’s Senior Brunch, a gathering to celebrate graduating seniors. As I worked through what I hoped they would carry with them, I kept returning to my mom’s journey, my parents’ example, and the faith that keeps me moving forward.

The roots of the message
Before I had a message, I had their example.
Mom had lost her hair during chemotherapy and radiation for breast cancer. This photo takes me back to a season that shaped me, and to lessons I still carry into how I treat people and how I lead.
My parents taught me to treat people the way I want to be treated, to be honest and accountable, and to keep asking whether I had given the best of myself. Our family story was not perfect, and I will not smooth that over. The lessons that stayed with me are clear: care about people, own your choices, and keep growing.
Mom’s journey also taught me that people can be carrying things no one else can see. It is one reason I try to meet young people where they are, understand the person behind the moment, and help them see there is still room to grow.
The promise I return to
Jeremiah 29:11
When I cannot see what comes next, this verse reminds me to keep trusting God for hope and a future.

I wanted the message to travel farther than the room.
At the brunch, I wanted those seniors to leave with more than a few encouraging words. I wanted them to know that a hard season, a mistake, or a setback does not decide the rest of their story. There is still a next step. There is still room to grow. Their lives can still make a difference.
That is why I created Stay. Fight. Love. Grow. I want to share encouragement, motivation, and hope with people who need a reason to keep going—and with the teachers, coaches, parents, and leaders who are trying to give that hope to someone else. If you need encouragement for yourself or words to pass on, I hope you find something here you can carry forward.
Hear the message that started it ↗What I’m still learning
Give your best. Own your part. Keep growing.
I have always wanted to know I gave the best of myself. I call it a Never Good Enough Mentality: the belief that a win does not end the work and a loss does not end the possibility. That drive still pushes me to learn, ask harder questions, and look for the next way to improve.
For better or worse, that pursuit is part of who I am. I am learning to carry it honestly: own my mistakes, accept help, and remember that being human does not remove my responsibility to grow.
I do not want to lose the drive that has always pushed me. I want to keep growing through what I have struggled with—and let that growth make me more present for someone else.

Where the message becomes personal
The person beside you matters.
On a sideline, the next play matters. So does the person standing beside me. I want a player to hear the correction and know I am invested in him beyond what he can do for a team. That is the responsibility I carry into teaching, coaching, and speaking.

The work behind the message
Every role brings me back to people.
I am a business educator, online adjunct professor of Sport Management at Liberty University, coach, leadership speaker, and culture builder. My experience in classrooms and athletics keeps bringing me back to the same responsibility: develop people.
I bring the urgency of a coach, the perspective of an educator, and the honesty of someone who knows growth is rarely clean or comfortable. The standard I ask others to pursue is one I continue to pursue myself.
“People don’t care what you know until they know that you care.”
For wherever you are right now
You are still becoming.
Life will not always make the next step obvious. You may be carrying more than people around you can see. I hope this message reminds you that a hard season does not erase your future, and a moment of falling short does not take away your chance to grow.
Keep going. Give yourself permission to begin again. And when you are able, pass the encouragement on to someone else.
Stay in the moment.
Fight through the tough moments.
Love others in their moments.
Grow in every moment.
